stevetony but the genre is "friends have sex like this, right?"
Picture This by @stovetuna
“What if—” Steve doesn’t clear his throat this time. He swallows. And oh, Tony watches like it’s happening in slow motion, the tensing of tendons, the roll of Steve’s Adam's apple, the way his suprasternal notch collapses and fills as his esophagus works to, what, keep words down? Saliva? A moan? Steve blinks and the glassiness clears. The blush all but vanishes. “Never mind,” he mutters.
And that…that just won’t do.
Tony leans forward ever so slightly over the foot of the bed, further into Steve’s space by a fraction of an inch. Anyone else wouldn’t have noticed, but Steve does. He stares at Tony from up near the headboard, a plaintive expression deep behind his eyes, a problem that Tony can’t help but want to fix.
“Would you like my help, Steve?”
***
Steve gets caught attempting to take his first-ever dick pics. It's a struggle, he explains, because it brings up a whole host of lingering body image issues. Tony, very gallantly and not at all because he is in love with Steve, offers to take the photos for him.
dick drunk by @stovetuna
“I’m going to fuck you stupid,” Steve says, pulling away only a fraction of an inch to say it, a promise as deep and certain as the look in his eyes, “and you’re going to take it. Aren’t you, Tony.”
Tony wants a drink. Steve gives him something else.
Thrust Issues by @sineala
A battle gone wrong leads Tony to the unexpected and pleasant discovery that Steve is much more well-endowed than he could ever have imagined. But when Tony learns that Steve has never actually been able to sleep with anyone because of his size, Tony does what any good friend would do: he offers to relieve Steve of his virginity. Personally. Tony's determined, Tony's methodical, and Tony has a plan. He's going to get Steve laid. Tony just needs to make sure Steve never finds out that Tony's in love with him.
The Least Difficult of Men by @isozyme
It isn’t until Tony watches Steve lean into the punch that he thinks oh, this is going to be a problem.
━━━
Steve’s taking hits on purpose in the field, so Tony suggests a safer option. It's simple: Tony smacks Steve around, Steve gets the pain fix he’s looking for, everyone leaves happy. Things do not stay simple.
The one with repressed masochist Steve and sadist Tony and everyone getting off on pain a whole bunch.
Not a Breakup by @no-gorms
Tony knew it was a bad idea to start sleeping with Steve. It could mess up team dynamics, make things even more awkward between them in the future, or just plain get in the way of their trying to save the world. Tony foresaw all of the above but not the advent of feelings, and at the most inopportune moment.
Hard Knock Life by @kandisheek
Since the serum Steve hasn't been able to make himself come. His stamina is so unbelievably high that he can't find a partner who can keep up with him either. Lucky for him Tony is just stubborn enough to try.
any other way of loving by @brandnewfashion
In which Steve is bad at dating, Tony isn’t, and neither of them are as subtle as they think.

57 perhaps? If inspiration happens to strike. I love a little desperation or uncertainty or pretty much any possible cause of trembling kisses. Can be nsfw or not. Thank you for all that you do, and please feel free to disregard entirely if it’s not your thing!
57 - kisses with trembling lips
Astarion x gn!Tav/Reader
OH BOY DID THE INSPIRATION STRIKE. IN THE WORST WAY POSSIBLE. I saw this prompt and my mind immediately went to the most painful idea. I legitimately almost started crying multiple times writing this, as someone who very rarely cries over fics at all. Soooo let that be a solid warning and good luck 👍

Kiss Prompts
It felt wrong to see you like this. You were surrounded by flowers from all your friends; Astarion despised the damn things more than ever. The only good thing was their potent fragrances masked the scent of death.
He took a deep breath, biting his cheek to force back his tears. It wasn’t working very well.
He stepped forward, leaning over the sides of the wooden coffin to peer down at your face. You looked peaceful. Much, much too pale, but peaceful. The thought of lowering you into the ground rubbed him the wrong way, but there was some comfort in knowing you would be laid right next to his own grave. When his time comes, however long from now, he’d be by your side once again.
He inhaled shakily. The tears burning his eyes broke free. He didn’t have the energy to wipe them away.
His hands shook as he reached in and cupped your cheek. The wrinkles and creases of age still felt exactly as they had a week ago, when you were scolding him for hovering over you. “I’m not helpless yet, Star. I can make it to the couch on my own.”
The thought of that house. Of going back to the emptiness… Gods, what would he do without you?
“Live. Live for me. You have so much life to live, my love. My star.”
He wished you’d open your eyes. Tell him it was all a joke. Come back to him, lay in his arms just one more time.
He couldn’t breathe. His chest was too damn tight, choking on half-contained sobs. The sun would be rising soon. He’d need to leave before then. For you. Gods know he was all too tempted to stay here, holding you one last time as he’s reduced to ash. But your voice rang all too clearly in his mind, as though you were commanding him on a battlefield. Live.
He leaned down and pressed his lips to your forehead. If he closed his eyes, he could imagine you were still alive, merely fast asleep in your armchair by the fire, book slipping from your fingertips. But the smell of death flooded his nose too strongly. It was not the warm scent of the fire, or the soaps and oils he would bathe you with.
His lips trembled against your skin. His chin shook as emotion overwhelmed him. His entire body shuddered with the power of his sobs. His tears hit your skin; a holy aspersion from a lifetime of being loved. He reluctantly pulled away, vision blurred to hell as he delicately brushed them from your brow.
The horizon slowly grew pink and yellow. He had to leave.
His heart ached with the thought, now more than ever. He would never see your face again, not outside of portraits or magic mimicry. And he couldn’t even see worth a damn to be absolutely positive he would never forget it. He forgot his own face so long ago; he wouldn’t forget yours.
He tried to speak, tried to tell you he loved you, to thank you for spending your life with him, for never giving up on him despite it all, for being you. But the words never came. A golden beam creeped over the opposite edge of your coffin. The flowers came alive in the sun. He wished you would, too.
He passed from shadow to shadow back home, sobbing out his grief with every step.

FINAL for real this time: Davis (Juror 8) from Twelve Angry Men vs the Bimodal Distribution from statistics
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda under the cut, and it's REALLY worth it:
Davis (Juror 8) (these are all from the single submitter)
a quick lil list babes, and I apologise for all of this in advance:
He's from the fucking film 12 angry men. like, aside from letterbox bootlickers and middle school hass students NO ONE has watched this film let alone care about it, it was made in 1957, is shot almost exclusively in one room and the entire film is just middle aged white men yelling at each other over whether some not white poor kid should be sent to the electric chair. what the fuck.
Henry Fonda, the actor, was 52 years old at the time of filming
Henry Fonda is the father of Jane Fonda, the woman who would revolutionise the 80's with her home workouts and her blindingly neon leg warmers.
His name wasn't revealed until the very end of the film and even then it's just "Davis."
I could honestly give him a lil smooch
He's absolutely not girlypop but he's the ally-iest ally who's ever allied
He's categorised as a "Benevolent Leader" on the Heroes Wiki
instead of the overwhelming urge for me to coddle him like most all other blorbos, i would appreciate it switched
I have a photo of him inside my saxophone case and sometimes i forget he's in there, then he creeps into my saxophone bell and when I play it he shoots out like a ballistic missile
Dude, on ao3 there's more fanfiction about the real life 80's British punk band The Clash than the entire film of 12 angry men, let alone Davis (80 fics come up under the clash, while 10 come up for 12 angry men)
I have a counter, and I've watched 12 Angry men a total of 145 times. The figure is up on my wall in tallies. whenever the number goes up, I like to watch it in 5's so then I can put another full group of tallies on my wall.
I have incredibly detailed stories about how Davis would boogie down to ringo starr's solo career, and they're written within the margins of a book called Tobruk written by Peter Fitzsimons. The only reason I reread that book is to wonder at my elaborate works of fiction
My HASS teacher was the one to introduce me to 12 Angry Men as he played it for the entire class. He gave us a set of questions to complete on the film and a few Law based questions as a little treat, and he expected it to be handed in the next day. What he didn't expect was an 11 page monster of a response that included social commentary, 4 paragraphs dissecting the character of Davis alone, deeply discussed comparisons between the landscapes of politics and law in the 50's to the present, and basically an entire point-for-point summarisation of the film, completed with obscure quotes from Truman, Eisenhower, Nixon and Presley (Elvis). He presented the printed masterpiece in front of the entire class to shame me.
After class he explained how his favourite Juror would either be 6 or 5, because 6 seems like a big dumb teddybear and he just liked 5. I explained how I liked Davis because he didn't want to send a kid to die, then he told me how Davis would make a good cowboy (at this point in time I was unaware of Henry Fonda's role in Once Upon A Time in The West) and I proceeded to go home and write a 3 part orchestral composition that I could pretend would play as the soundtrack to Juror 8: A Cowboy's Tale or something like that
I had started to make an animation meme starring Davis but only gave up when photoshop literally deleted itself from my laptop
I didn't even hear that Juror 8's name was Davis when I first watched it in class, somehow I only heard it on my 6th rewatch but when I did I literally got so excited I literally got winded and cried a little bit, I had to take a panadol because I got so lightheaded
I have learned the musical motif that plays throughout the film on saxophone, clarinet, recorder, guitar, bass, ukulele, piano and trumpet
I have visions of him
One of Davis' 3 children HAS to be gay and nothing can convince me otherwise
honest to god I'd be a home wrecker if it came to him
I quote not only Davis but the film a lot, and sometimes in the dead silence of all my friends I go on about how the old man couldn't have possibly made it to the door in such a short amount of time to see the kid running down the stairs (because the old man has a limp, and Davis proved it my limping around the room, which I have to say was incredibly attractive of him)
He's literally an architect
I once had a dream where Davis was in my bass guitar case when I opened it, and i literally just picked him up and started picking him like a bass guitar until I tried to play a full chord and he bit the hand that was meant to be on the fretboard. I dropped him and he fell on his ass, and when I said "what the hell dude what was that for" he said bass chords are lowkey ugly to listen to, and since then i don't like playing bass chords because now they're lowkey ugly to listen to. before this ordeal, i enjoyed them, but alas
i once got my romantic partner to write me a davis x reader fanfiction as a birthday present
my parents believe that Davis is my first celebrity crush, and while they're actually wrong it's still actually so embarrassing they believe that because OH MY GOD it's literally JUROR 8 FROM 12 ANGRY MEN
I've attempted slam poetry about him
I've eaten a paper printed full a4 size photo of his hand
I would also not mind him to be literally my father, but given the rest of the things I've just said about him that's really weird and I recognise that
the Bimodal Distribution
First of all, it's a math concept. that is already pretty bizarre of a thing to be blorbo-ifying. Second of all, I don't know any calculus, and I don't consider myself a math person (because I hate arithmetic), but I really like this guy for some reason. I mean this graph clearly holds the secrets of the universe. don't you just want to l o o k at it . like you could solve everything in the world with that boy

You shook your head as. You gently placed Hexx’s hands in warm water, your heart hurt when he winced in pain. “I know, I know it hurts, Hexx. Just bear with it for a little bit, okay? Once we get your fingers defrosted, we can make sure there’s no permanent damage. Alright, sweetie?”
“Yeah. Thanks, vod’ika.”
“Don’t worry I got you. I’m gonna put your feet in warm water too, okay?”
Hexx simply nodded, too tired and cold to really answer. You wrapped his body in a blanket, “We gotta raise your body temperature okay? Your body suit was able to protect most of your body, thankfully, but we still need to bring it up okay. I’m gonna get you something hot to drink. Okay?” You wrapped the blanket around him tighter.
“Vod’ika, in case we don’t say this enough. You’re amazing.”
You gave him a soft smile as you patted his back, “Not that amazing, but I’ll take it. I’ll be back.”
As soon as you were out of his sight and heading to the poor excuse you all called a kitchen, you let the anger you had been holding back unleash itself on the wall, smacking it with your hand over and over again, as tears welled up in your eyes.
You felt the strong arms you have come to know even in your sleep; wrapping around you and holding you close, as you felt him pressing you into his chest, as you felt his heart beat against your back. He closed the door with his foot so you could break down in his arms, “It’s alright, babe. It’s alright.”
“No, it’s not!” You turned in his arms and buried your face in Mayday’s shoulder holding him close as you cried your eyes out. “Another hour and he would’ve lost his fingers and toes. What’s the point of staying here?”
Mayday wrapped his arms tighter around you, pressing kisses to your forehead, “Babe, I know…” he let out a sigh, “I don’t know what to do right now,” he let out a chuckle. “I can either get super angry and pissed with you and we go to the training room, go a couple rounds of sparring or… I just stand here and shower you with kisses, because the fact that you get so upset about one of my men, means more to me than you’ll ever know.”
A soft giggle escaped your lips as you nuzzled into his chest, “Oh, I love you.”
“I know, and you have to know there’s no one I could love like I love you. You’re one in a million cyar’ika.”
“So are you babe” you pulled back to look at him, smiling. “How do you do that?”
“What?”
“Make my anger washaway?”
“Simple, mesh’la. I make sure to keep your needs above my own.” He chuckled, pressing a kiss to your cheek, “What is the prognosis on Hexx though?”
“Well I got him warming up his hands and feet right now. I’m going to take him some warm cocoa. Once he’s warm enough, I’ll dry off his hands and feet, see what sort of damage he’s dealing with and then go from there.”
His hands rubbed your back as he placed another kiss on your forehead, “Thank the force … for whatever that’s worth.”
You let out a sigh as you leaned back and looked into his eyes, “I should get back,” you stood on your toes and leaned in and kissed him, “I’ll see you later, right?”
“Yeah, cyar’ika.” Once he was sure your anger had subsided, he slowly lowered his arms and hands until he held yours as he looked at you, “Cyar’ika, before I go,” his hands gently held yours, lifting them until they pressed into his chest, “I want you to know how much we appreciate you being here. You could’ve left like all the others, be asked to get transferred out, but you didn’t. You’ve stuck by our side from day one since you joined our unit. You are one of the best medics the GAR or the Empire has ever seen, you should be somewhere better than this barren wasteland of a planet. You should have someone better by your side, than me. Someone who can do so much more for you, than what I can. And the fact … the fact you’ve … you’ve taken care of us, supported us, tried to find ways to keep us alive and safe …” He pressed his forehead against yours, and took in a deep breath, “You are my heart, cyar’ika. It doesn’t beat without you.”
You closed your eyes, breathing him in, “You are the air I breathe, and you are exactly where you need to be, by my side. I don’t care about that stuff, all I care about is you, and your men.”
“You can always lean on me, okay? When things get hard, when you get angry and need to smack a wall, or you need to scream your head off, I’m here for you. Alright? That’s what this is all about, you’re there for me, and I’m there for you. Always.”
“Yeah…” you nodded in understanding, “I need to get back to Hexx, but I love you.”
“I love you,” Mayday gave you one last kiss before letting you go, so you could focus on Hexx’s injuries, “and tonight, I’ll wear you out good and proper so you don’t have to be so worried.”
You giggled at his innuendo, “Promise?”
“Try and stop me” he chuckled, pressing one more kiss to your lips, before he headed back to his men.

Okay, so I said that I'd do that list of hcs about the gang dying, so here we are (also I am not responsible for any fics this spawns) (also these are all pretty limited bc there are So many ways that this could go down and I can only do so much lol) also this is an au where they beat Grimmel and keep the dragons bc I say it is
(i'm sorry <3)
HICCUP
Hiccup dies trying to make peace with another tribe
The conversation between the two leaders is private, and on the other chief's terms
Which we know he is willing to go for
They were able to restrain Toothless and kill Hiccup
Toothless dies fighting against the hordes of soldiers that this guy had waiting (because without Hiccup he can't fly away, and they weren't about to risk him getting back to Berk)
The other chief declares war with Hiccup's head on a spear and he gets it
Hiccup and Toothless have a shared funeral, sent to rest together, just like Hiccup would have wanted
They all put on a brave face at the funeral, and each of them said a few words
Astrid about what a strong leader he was, how he was selfless in his pursuit of peace
Snotlout spoke 'reluctantly' about what a great warrior and chief he was
The twins went on about the glorious battles that they wouldn't have been in without Hiccup
How he was actually a little unhinged like how they all road into battle with the red death for their first time on a dragon that hated them etc etc
Fishlegs talked about how gentle and kind he was, how they wouldn't be here in this unprecedented time of peace with dragons and most of the people around them without Hicucp's big heart
They all cried together after the funeral and fell asleep on Hiccup's floor
They never talked about that again
Astrid is inconsolable, she's not going to rest until she has that chief's head on her own spear
She lashes out at people a lot
She gets a tattoo of the strike class symbol on her shoulder to honor Hiccup
Their dragons all take the loss really hard
They won't leave Toothless' favorite spots for days after this
Just in case he comes back
Even though they know he won't
They're clearly grieving for a long time after that
Barf and Belch aren't as playful, Meatlug's appetite is almost gone, Hookfang more or less leaves Snotlout alone and doesn't flame up for a few months, Stormfly is unresponsive
They still do what they can for their riders though
Their battle strategies grow increasingly violent and desperate
Fishlegs spends hours pouring over Hiccup's notes in the Book of Dragons, on his desk, about the Dragon Eye, anything he can find
It feels like spending time with Hiccup if only for a minute
He also plants a tree over Hiccup's grave
Something that will last for years and years in memory of Hiccup
The twins decided to erect just a massive statue of Hiccup in the middle of Berk (mostly because they knew he would hate it)
They actually went out of their way to do stuff that they knew Hiccup would hate, leaving his things in the wrong places, rotten fish in his hut or smth in hopes that he would come back and haunt them
They cope w humor and Astrid hates it
But Fishlegs reminds her that they all deal with things in different ways
And she gives them a little more grace
Snotlout doesn't really talk about Hiccup much after he dies except to make ill-timed comments about how Hiccup would be rolling in his grave, or if Hiccup hadn't up and died he could've helped here but no
(But at night sometimes he sits at his grave and talks to him like he can hear him because maybe he can)
He and Astrid get in a massive fight over this (the jokes and comments) before they both start crying and Snotlout apologizes
he just misses him so
much
Fishlegs and the twins come in towards the end of this and they all reminisce about Hiccup
They all help Astrid with her their revenge mission
Fishlegs argues that if they can still achieve peace, it's worth it
Astrid and Snotlout are outraged at this, how could Fishlegs even consider attempting peace after what he did to their Hiccup
The twins are surprisingly quick to point out that, Hicucp would have wanted them to achieve peace before he took something else from Berk
Nothing is worth another one of their lives
But they also want to see revenge as much as everybody else, and really, what are the odds peace talks go their way??
They're all for blowing evil assholes up
Astrid is angry with all of them, mostly because they're right that Hiccup would want peace, and because she knows that peace isn't possible
But it makes her rethink what Hiccup would want them to do
He wouldn't want them to kill themselves looking for vengeance
They have a quiet moment altogether before they decide to slow down and think about what they're doing
When they come at the chief again, they are organized and cutthroat
He never stood a chance
Astrid takes up her position as chieftess and she leads in a way that she hopes would make Hiccup proud
But she has her friends by her side and they all keep each other right and take care of each other
I was gonna do all of them at once but this was really long lol
I'll probably reblog this with the other riders as I go and if you have ideas please lmk <3

Your McShep fics are giving me life. I'm CRAVING McShep content recently - its so hard to discover a love for old fandoms that are now less active! Please send me all the great other McShep fics you stumble across, I've burned my way through your whole library
Oh my goodness!!!! This ask plus the one from a few weeks ago are really telling me I need to get back to doing fic rec posts regularly!!!!!
First of all thank you so much for your kind words about my fic 💖💖💖💖 honestly for me SGA fandom feels soooo active, even though I know it was an actual juggernaut back in the day lmao. BUT that means that there’s a MASSIVE backlog of stuff to read!!!! Just insane amounts of staggeringly good fics!!!!
And second of all you can check all my previous rec posts here: the tag is sometimes ficlets I’ve reblogged but also lots of links and lists in there!!
ANYWAY. Let me see if I can rustle up some new recs for you my friend! I have a couple of unposted recs in my notes so we’ll pop those in first:
Five People Who Know by hestia_lacey | ~4k, rated E
Five people who know exactly how John Sheppard feels about Rodney McKay.
Only read this if you’re prepared to have your heart stomped on, but ahhhhhhhh. The first part, with Jeannie, is definitely my favorite.
Wishes on a Wheel by waterfalliam | ~3.2k, rated T
The sun is gentle, faintly wrong against his skin. The wind whispers against his arms and neck that he’s alive and that counts for something, he’s never wholly alone, he still has himself—but it’s nothing like the sea breeze that feels like home.
Absolutely beautifully sad introspective Epiphany!John piece, dealing with his depression and feelings of abandonment, with a sweet ending 💖
Solitary by @esteefee | ~5k, rated M
Four days in solitary gives a guy time to think. Unless he's an idiot.
Aggggh the John voice in this is immaculate (as is to be expected from esteefee ofc). Sardonically funny with a soft and chewy emotional core that just...takes a little time and a little chipping away at to get to. But, you know, worth it.
Followed by two faves from this year’s sga secret santa, both of them variations on the theme of John and Rodney making up:
In the Dark of the Night by @hero-in-waiting | ~5.8k, rated M
The problem with arguments is that they never happen at a good time. Which is a to be expected given their nature. And the problem with trying to make up is, at least in the Pegasus galaxy, they come at an even worst time. Especially when John and Rodney get stuck off world, running from some locals who took a dislike to them immediately and five days after an argument that, in John's opinion, had started over nothing.
But at least they were together?
Love the concept of this one, love them being forced into life or death situations before being able to talk about their feelings, looooove the misunderstanding on Rodney’s part 🥰🥹
When I Think of All the Worries That People Seem to Find by @audioletter | ~2.3k, rated G
After ten years of being together, John acts like John and Rodney acts like Rodney.
Absolutely cried reading this I love it so much. The depth of knowledge that they have for each other after so long is so apparent in the best, most beautiful way.
Aaaand let’s round it out with a nice long one:
Inukshuk by murron | ~80k, rated M
A mission-gone-south isolates Rodney and John from the rest of the team. Forced to search for an Ancient outpost, they struggle to keep each other alive until the time their kidnappers prepare to sacrifice the one and purify the other.
This is absolutely a mcshep fic but I almost found that taking a backseat for me in my enjoyment of the way that the plot unfolds, the way that it’s written? Absolutely spellbinding work, I struggled to put it down.

I Read Still Another K/S Zine So You Don't Have To
But maybe you should, anyway.
You may remember that a while back I reviewed Alien Brothers, and said that if I got my hands on any other zines I would review them as well. Well, here we are! This is the first of eight zines I currently own physical copies of, and those reviews should come out over the rest of the year.
Still Another K/S Zine was published in July of 1984 and was the fourth issue of Another K/S Zine. First impressions are difficult, as my copy is a homemade reprint on green paper which was stapled together and has no cover. It's also almost 40 years old, so it has seen better days.
Despite all this, it is quite pretty. The fics all have different trim designs and most of the artwork is of flowers. It doesn't have any full page drawings, nor drawings of Kirk and/or Spock. The italics are all in cursive which is only slightly difficult to read and may or may not have been hand written. The rest of the text is standard typewriter font, which, by the thanks, has been typed by hand. I'm very glad that's no longer necessary.
Warnings: light discussion of sex, one mention of non-con, spoilers for the fics in this zine.
Disclaimer: everything written here is my interpretations and opinions of this zine and the works within it. None of it is meant to offend or diss any of the creators.
Editorial
Apparently, fans didn't like the Search for Spock. Personally, I don't see why. There's a little comic that I find quite humourous.
Folly
by Vivian Gates
Very interesting concept. I never thought I would ship Spock and Finnegan, and to be fair, going exclusively by canon, I still don't. However, despite the changes that had to be made for this story to work, both Finnegan and Spock are still surprisingly in character. Vivian Gates seems to have a tendency to leave stories open ended, as she does it again with The Air is the Air two years later. It's a well written and constructed story, and I enjoyed it. 4.5/5
Protecting the Captain's ASSets, or, the Danger of Ignoring ScuttleBUTT.
by Sharon Fetter
This fic starts with the worst poem I have ever read and it's spectacular. A new yeoman on the Enterprise tries to use it to get Kirk to sleep with her but Spock catches her and she turns into one of many who got kicked off the Enterprise for this. I love the funny ones. 5/5
Altered Perceptions
by Shawn Masters
Boooooring. It's a pon farr fic but it has no smut in it, Spock tries to jump off a cliff and Jim is mad a lot and when he's not mad he's basically forcing himself onto Spock. Not the worst by far, but definitely a skip on my part. 3.5/5
Hold Me Till the Morning Comes
by Janus
What if Jim held on to Spock's katra instead? I wouldn't know, this story is barely a page and a half long, and it's technically listed as a poem in the table of contents. It's fine. 4/5
At this point everything stops for a bit to bring you: poems written after SFS! They aren't very good. Back to our regularly scheduled programming.
Once Upon a Night....
by Melanie Athene
Spock has a nightmare, wakes up his neighbours, one of which is Jim, of course. Then the lights cut out and it's plenty cold so you know what that means! Huddling for warmth in Spock's bed. Jim cries about his brother and then they have a tickle war which inevitably devolves into hot, steamy sex - which we aren't shown. Frankly, I'm becoming a little disappointed with the lack of smut in this zine, especially considering every fic so far (except for one) has been leading up to it. 5/5
On the Matters of Being Very Fat and Purple, and Enjoying It
by C.J. McNally
Now, here's the smut I've been waiting for! And while it wasn't overly detailed it was well worth the wait, with a little bit of Bones on the sidelines. This one was a lot of fun, and probably my second favourite fic in this zine. Also, gotta love that title. 5/5
Rub-A-Dub-Dub
by Devery Helm
I would never in a million years step into a bathtub made of velvet, no matter how water resistant it apparently is. It sounds like the worst sensory experience ever. However, Spock doesn't know what a rubber duck is and he's scared of bubbles, so at least there's that. A solid bit of light-hearted fun. 4/5
Old Friends
by Toni Cardinal-Price
There are a few cons of reading printed zines, and one of them is that when I read an absolutely spectacular fic and I want to share it with all my friends, I can't. This is one such fic.
It all starts when Jim's old friend from the Farragut gets assigned temporarily to the Enterprise and hugs Spock as soon as he comes on board, and Spock hugs him back! Turns out they roomed together at the Academy and may or may not have been lovers. So now they spend all their time together and Kirk gets increasingly jealous while this new guy does everything in his power to make Jim and Spock confess to each other. It's spectacular and I love it. This zine is worth getting if only for this fic. 5/5
Art and poetry
There isn't really a lot of art in this zine, and the art that is in there is fairly simple, though some is quite detailed. They compliment the works well, at least.
As for poetry, most of it wasn't to my taste, but there were a handful of good ones.
Final thoughts
This was nowhere near as bad as Alien Brothers, but to be fair that's because I specifically selected this zine out of 30-ish offered to me, based on the Fanlore page of each one, reading about the fics in them. I went into Alien Brothers knowing it was going to be bad, and I went into this one knowing I had selected it, but also knowing that someone was clearly quite willing to get rid of it, if the price tag was any indication (let's just say, I spent more on shipping). Still, I can't say it's a bad zine. It has plenty of fun stories, and even if I've read better ones for free online, the experience of actually holding a zine, a piece of history, was well worth it. Old Friends was on par with some of my favourite modern stories, and Being Very Fat and Purple had that classic charm I quite enjoy. All of these stories are somewhat products of their time, but none of them have aged poorly. I also read the whole thing in one day, as it's only 106 pages long. All in all, this was a very enjoyable zine.

CAPTURED
Sarge X Medic Reader
Summary- What should've been a simple supply run became much worse.
[A/n]- SARGE! Not many fics about him out there, I am going to personally change that. Lets hear it for our favorite DILF! (Or would it be GILF?) Feedback is Always appreciated!
Tw- assault [head injury], torture [mildly graphic], death, canon typical violence [Please let me know if I missed any!!!]
Tumblr media
It should’ve been any old supply run :Get in, grab what's on the list, get out. Simple enough right? Wrong, oh so wrong. You should’ve known when you got paired up with Sarge and his team of lieutenants that something was bound to happen. See now, you had a small crush on the eccentric Colonel and unbeknownst to you, so did he. He could never tell you because he just didn’t know how. He was only a few years older than you so why did it still feel so weird? Neither of you truly knew.
But back to the present, you guys had reached your destination; a small abandoned town from before the war. Winter’s barren nature had overtaken it. This run had to be extra cautious because you were warned of recent pirate activity in the area. Keeping that in mind you had left to search an abandoned pharmacy. It was half way through when the sound of other vehicles pulling up were heard nearby.
Sarge radios his team to tell them to hurry what they’re doing and get back in the vehicles. Normally he would just fight them if it came to that but you were with them and he also didn’t need any more casualties in this stupid war. Most of his team were teens for heaven's sake. When he didn’t hear you respond with the rest he opened a private channel to try and reach you. “Hey get back to the vehicles, a bunch of space pirates just popped up nearby. I told everyone to just finish what they were doing and get ready to leave. Ain’t worth the trouble.”
“Yeah I’d love to do that but I’m pinned at the moment,” you whispered into the comms while peeking over the shelving into the aisles, “Seven pirates searching for you guys. I’m going to try and sneak past them.” Moving behind another shelf you made your way towards the emergency exit. Once you made it to the door you radioed Sarge again,“I’ve made it out, be ready for-” when you were knocked over.
“Oh no you don’t.” sneers the pirate standing over you. Crouching down next to you he spoke, “Tell your little Colonel goodbye.” Then he brought the butt of his rifle down on your temple. The world went black.
Back in the vehicles was a panicked Sarge. He wanted to rush to you but he couldn’t risk the others and the cargo. Frustratedly he orders the group back to Armonia with nothing but you and revenge on his mind. He’d get you back no matter what.
Meanwhile, you awoke being dragged into what seemed to be a wounded tent. Using quick thinking you sent your location to the first person on your contacts, which happened to be Simmons. And then they stripped you of your armour and forced you to tend to their wounded soldiers. After you had finished with the last man they dragged you to another tent; cuffing your hands behind your back the torture began. Stabbing you with different blades, holding your head under water, or sometimes they’d just hit you with their fists. Almost everything in the boom to try and get you to talk. You weren’t even sure why they thought you would have information. But your favourite being when they had carved ‘WASTE’ into your stomach.  But you just would not break. Sure you’d scream and you had cried, but in the end you had told them nothing. Oh and how they hated that. Eventually they left you alone, loudly talking about what was for dinner and how they’d hunt down and kill the rest of your squad if you didn’t talk by tomorrow. One had asked another why they were ordered to keep you alive. That puzzled you. Was the order from the mercenaries?
After they had left you had plenty of time to think. You were too hurt to attempt an escape and you didn’t know where they put your armour. It was unlikely that a team would come for you despite your distress signal to Simmons.
“That’s war” they would always say, “not everyone makes it back.”
Hell, they probably already had your replacement setting up. That kinda hurt but what hurt more is that you’d never see your friends again, and you’d never be able to tell the Colonel how you felt about him. If you had ever worked up the courage anyway. You’d never be able to hear his stupid rants again or be able to watch him teach the others how to shoot. Those were your favourite days, for a man of his age and with some of his more permanent wounds, he moved like he was 15 years younger. Sometimes he’d offer to teach you since you didn’t seem to be much of a fighter. Perhaps now that you look back on it you should have taken him up on those offers. Because look where not being able to defend yourself very well got you.
You weren’t sure how much time had passed when you heard the sound of gunfire outside. Two pirates burst inside and grabbed you. Not caring that they were making your injuries worse, they dragged you out and you tried to make sense of what you were seeing. Simmons and Agent Carolina were barreling through pirates. You hadn’t even noticed how many there were in the camp. And then you heard it, the sound of a shotgun being racked back. Looking around for him as they continue to pull you to a car you spotted him take down a pirate in the way.
“Sarge!” you cried out, trying to catch his attention. His helmet spinning around towards the noise. And then the pirate who had been in charge of getting information from you made the absolute worst decision of his life; He punched you. Right in the stomach in an attempt to shut you up. You cried out, the blow having reopened the word carved there, causing blood to pour out.
Sarge was so relieved to see you were still alive. And it was his name you had called out! And then the fool had hit you and the blood began to flow out of you. There are no words to describe the rage he felt. Nothing could stop him from reaching you. He smashed through the idiots who dared try and stop him, ignoring the calls of his teammates. Upon seeing him the two dropped you and ran for the cars behind them.
“Agent Carolina, You see those maggots running to the cars? I want those ones personally.” He didn’t wait for her response, knowing she’d do it for him. And he was right, a blur of blue speeded past him. Knowing that was taken care of he dropped to your side. Shielding you with his body. “Where did they hurt you? Talk to me please.” He pleaded with you.
All you could manage to do was pull up what was left of your undershirt, exposing what they had done. Sobs escaped you and part of you felt pathetic for crying in front of your superior.  People like you didn’t get to cry.
“Who did this to you.”
It was not a question. It was an order.
And then you heard footsteps and dragging. The freelancer had taken down the group. You heard Carolina radio for Dr. Grey to be ready, she was holding the men who had done it to you, one in each hand. You shakily pointed to the one on her right and Sarge's vision followed your finger to the culprit.
“You hurt ‘em?” he asked while standing up.
“No I didn't, I swear! You gotta believe me!” the man pleaded. Looking back to you, asking the silent question and you nodded.
“Get rid of that one, this one's mine.” Looking at Carolina.  You looked away and flinched when she took her pistol. She put a round through the ones on the left skull.
Taking the knife Simmons was already holding out for him, he planned on repaying every favour. But, he didn't want you to see, So he asked Grif and the guys who had now caught up with them to get you in something warmer and away from this place.
They took you to a pelican where Doctor Grey had decided she was personally going to help you. She rambles on and on about how you are so strong and how it's obvious that you like the Colonel and Just confess already dammit! Grif got a laugh out of that one and if you could move he'd be very harmed.
A few moments later he and Agent Carolina arrived back on the pelican. Sarge being uncharacteristically quiet, no quip about how he saved the day or about how all pirates are dirtbags. You kinda missed it, but it was very clear he had a lot to think about. He didn't say a word the entire ride back. When you landed they rushed you immediately into a hospital room to further assess your injuries. He never would tell you about how he paced in the visitors lounge or about how he didn't sleep until he knew for sure you were stable.
When he finally did visit you it was alone. He sat in the chair beside your bed and took off his helmet. You could never get tired of seeing that face. If only he knew. And then it happened, he spoke.
"I am so sorry for not getting there sooner." It was quiet, soft in a way you did not know he knew how to speak.
"It's not your fault," you said, moving to grab his hand even though the movement hurt terribly, "Nobody could've known they would ambush us. Speaking of which, are the others ok? Did they make it back?"
He let you sit up before saying anything. "They all made it back in one piece. I- we came as fast as we could thanks to your quick thinking, that is." He looked at you and you couldn't place the emotions in his eyes. He looked so tired. You wondered when the last time he slept was.
He looked away, like he was trying to find what to say. So you took your chance, "Listen, Sarge after what's happened I learned that I should say what I need to say  more often. That I might not know if I'll regret it or not till it's too late." You take a deep breath. Preparing yourself for what you're about to say. "I really like you. Like, romantically and this is not how I imagined any of my confessions going but, it is what it is now. And I understand if you don't want to-"
"I like you too."
"W- what? Really?"
"I was just too much of a coward to admit it. I mean, I am a few years older than you and." He explained, like he just hadn't shattered and rebuilt your world in a sentence. Your head was spinning, trying to grasp what he just said. Instead of responding you motioned for him to lean in closer. And when he did you grabbed both sides of his face and kissed him. He froze for a minute before returning the kiss.
It was everything you dreamed of. Careful of your injuries he pulled you closer, deepening the kiss. And when you had to stop for oxygen he put his forehead against yours. "I'll always be here." He said in a whisper.
"I know" was all you could really say. And you know he meant every word.

Such a great chapter!✨️
Kenjaku is such a sore loser, like he acts so high and mighty but his plans got foiled by the wettest saddest guy in history. So embarassing for him. I can't imagine living for however long he lived and just staying in the same flop era with same flop goals. So cringe of him...😔
I am placing bets on Yuki vs Choso because I want those two to interact and because I think it would be funny if he betrays Kenjaku the second that fight ends. That man deserved more L's than the world is willing to give him (and the world is already willing to give him a lot of L's).
I love Mahito's dynamic with Hajime!✨️Like two stray cats that should only be adopted together. That car chase was iconic! It's honestly great to see Hajime slowly start to realize that there are things beyond strength. I can't believe Mahito hit a pedestrian...😔 Like, imagine the last thing you see being a green lambo with no driver and a person with cyan hair screaming in the other seat. I would never recover (neither will the random pedestrian).
“Haven’t you ever gone the opposite way on an escalator? Isn't it a fun challenge?”
This fool. “Fuck you! You know I’m scared of escalators!”
“That sounds like a you problem!”
“Of course it is, it’s my fear! That’s a me problem by definition!”
This made me laugh so hard, poor Hajime... being afraid of escalators...
I can't believe they gossiped about Nanami in a treehouse. Like, it's definetly something both of them would do, but I can't imagine Nanami's reaction if he ever finds out about this.
“Well, look what just happened with Sukuna and Suguru-kun,” Mahito says calmly, gesturing vaguely in the direction of the Nanami residence. “Kenjaku’s been scheming for over a thousand years, yet his meticulous goals were thrown off-course by the most depressed man in the universe! Isn’t that so totally hilarious?”
I love Mahito!✨️ He is so real for this one. Truer words have never been spoken.
“Whatever his plans are, nothing’s gonna go according to them. I wanna be there to watch that” Me too bestie, me too.
I did not expect the emotional conversation but I am so here for it. Sukuna's whole backstory is so in our face, but also not? It feels like watching one of those 1000 pieces puzzles. I know that they all form a cohesive picture, one that he loves to hint at all the time (he really needs some friends to talk to), but I also find it quite difficult to form that picture. Maybe I will make a list of all of the dramatic prejecting his issues on others he does to find it easier.
Mahito cried about Kashimo! I an way too emotionally invested in that interaction, but it was so cute!✨️
Sukuna's high emotional intelligence combined with 0 social skills is so fun to witness. Like, unlike Kenjaku's mysterious ass he is here infodumping about his trauma for free all the tine. King of never shutting up and never keeping things private.
"Water is best as ice" I see you, Sukuna, I see you—
Gojo really did not sign up for getting emotionally damaged by some theatre kid with 1000+ years worth of trauma.
Surprisingly, Sukuna seems genuinely offended. “I am not,” he shoots back. “Anyone who thinks gender correlates to strength deserves to be eaten alive by the gender they think is the weakest.” Progressive king!✨️
Gojo and Suguru are so cute this chapter.💖 Suguru really got a lot of character development (even if he had to lose an arm for it) and I am so happy for him!✨️
Tsumiki is getting a character arc! 🎉
Her argument with Megumi was sad, but also somewhat necessary for her? Like, it's good that she finally expressed her feelings, she needs to do that from time to time, even if yelling at Megumi wasn't realky the best way (even if Megumi was acting a bit like a jerk). At the same time, poor Megumi. He is really going through it right now. Also poor Gojo, it's clear that Sukuna's words affected him.
I'll write more, but I really need to go to sleep. Happy 2 years of writing TPG! 🎊 This fic is honestly one of the best I have ever read!💖
ooh i'm so happy you liked the chapter!! both scenes were really fun to write.
omg you're so right, kenjaku really is a sore loser. deserved. i fucking snorted at "his plans got foiled by the wettest saddest guy in history." so true, getou really fucked everything up for him through depression and character development. GOOD FOR HIM. "same flop era with the same flop goals" i dfghjkl. as for your theory on yuki vs choso...hm...interesting...
you described pfpk SO well, "two stray cats that should only be adopted together." real and accurate. they're so attached, they're like cats who constantly fight but meow like crazy if they're separated (my sister's cat is visiting for the summer, and that's how he is with my cat....) rip the pedestrian, and anyone who saw a car driving itself
i love mahito too! i wanted to give him interesting motives for going along with kjk's plans, since we never really found out in canon. i don't think he bought into the whole curses replacing humans thing, so why did he stay? i think him wanting to watch and study humanity as kenjaku tries to dismantle it fits with his personality.
their emotional convo was fun to write, especially their allusions to sukuna. that's exactly what i'm going for: all the puzzle pieces for sukuna's backstory are there, but missing a few key pieces for it all to make sense. slowly, we'll put things together, but not before making things way more confusing first
SUKUNAAAA MY OVERSHARING BELOVED we stan one zero social skills king. he's so vague but so expressive, and it's so funny and paradoxical of him. he never shuts up, but what he says never has substance.
"Gojo really did not sign up for getting emotionally damaged by some theatre kid with 1000+ years worth of trauma" PLEASE YOU'RE REALLY POPPING OFF WITH THIS MESSAGE gojo did get hit hard by sukuna's scarily accurate depictions of what it's like to be The Strongest. gojo is unsettled by sukuna, but the opposite is also true, which will only worsen as sukuna and gojo learn more about each other.
yeahhh tsumiki!! she deserves a character arc of her own, dammit. i'm so excited to write it! her argument with megumi was so gutting, but she needed to get her feelings out in the open so they can both begin to process and heal. but uh, not before some trauma first.
thank you so much for your kind words and for all your support!!! <333

[ Little self indulgent - Based on All the Reasons I won't go Home - a TommyInnit centric fic where he runs away to Hermitcraft ]
Hurt/Comfort. Sort of.
-
There are days Tommy doesn't get up.
He sleeps all day and buries his face into the plush of Henry that one of the Hermits made for him.
He lays there and stares out the window until the sun sets and his room sinks into a stretch of dark shadows.
He doesn't want to think about the list of things to do pinned to the wall, or the blueprints of a build he had loved so much yesterday but can now only hate.
He doesn't want to know why the fact that he can hear Grian, Scar and Mumbo outside his room worrying makes him feel even worse.
Or maybe he just feels awful in general. These days he can't really tell.
And it's funny.
It's stupid.
It's horrible, because he's away from the DreamSmp. He ran away years ago, and he has the most wonderful people looking after him and it has been the best years of his entire life.
So why does he feel so... Lonely?
Because once upon a time, he dragged himself through hell and waged wars to have even the right to call some stupid crater a home.
And now he had everything and he sometimes felt like nothing - and he hates it because it makes him feel like he's in Pogtopia again - watching Wilburs shadow loom against the ravine.
Or in Logstedshire - hiding from the monsters even though they've long since disappeared from his life.
It's anger, and a numb kind of sadness that hollows out your chest. It's bitter and broken and he doesn't want to feel this way - but he does anyway because humanity is flawed and Tommy isn't a Hermit.
So maybe he notices the way magic greets him differently than everyone else.
Maybe he notices how different he is from them, and the gap between their experiences are far deeper than he'll ever know how to cross.
He knows he can't compare, with his shitty cobblestone builds and rollercoasters that go nowhere.
He knows he's worth nothing, even though they look at him like he's everything.
But Grian still sits there with him when he doesn't talk, gentle hands combing through his blonde and white streaked hair.
Scar still comes in and tells him about the sunflower fields and the flowers blooming outside and leaves cookies on his bed.
Mumbo plays Big Hero Six on the TV in his room, even though he doesn't watch with him - and starts it all over when it ends - just because he told him once that it was his favourite movie - even though they've played it so many times he hates it.
And Tommy cries when they leave because he wants them here.
He wants them in his room.
He wants them to hold him and tell him he's loved, and cherished and everything that has worth - because on all his worst days - he looks at himself and can't see an ounce of what they see in him.
But he doesn't say it.
He just lays in bed, hugging Henry to his chest, and his fingers tighten against his sweater when Grian gets up to leave.
And Grian doesn't say a word.
But he stays.
And that's good enough.

a tier list honeyblock fics as ranked from serving least cunt to most cunt
suck eggs my dude - it's good i do like this fic and all it's just not lifechanging or anything. it used to be my most hits fic for a reason (wide interest base but still an easy read) and that's okay
i think that you're worth keeping around - huntlow is cute
one will die before he gets there - it's a missing scene. it's good. bound by the constraints of canon but good
how does summer end? - i should rewrite this as an actual short story or something bc 8k just isn't cutting it but it's already way longer than it really should have been. but i still like the vibes
a monster's here (are you still in there?) - the lack of luz centric hollow mind fics is a scourge upon tumblr's trending tags of early 2023. i'm doing my part.gif
you're the fool i'm just as well - yeah nice. thumbs up. sick pearlo is fun
they say we are asleep until we fall in love - well this one is a wip currently so. anyway the fairytale vibes are key but i think i'll only know if they were pulled off right when i reread the whole fic after i'm done. could bump up another two slots if so
castling kingside - vibes! vibes. first foray into cquirkyduo nonsense
it's called freefall (let me show you how) - ok i wouldn't necessarily call this one a Cunt Serve except for the last scene. except the impact of that last scene is contingent on the 11k that came before it. you get me
sacred and dust (the rest of us) - ok this is my fic with the most hits ever and it's about two minor characters in a childrens tv show that at the time had a collective like 4 mins of screentime. and some people said they cried over it. cunt serve
all's well that ends - i've said this fic better achieves what i set out to do with cause most of us are bitter but that fic is my super special baby so it barely scrapes in afterwards. anyway another case of a lot of people said they cried. idk if it counts as a cunt serve because it's such a bummer but genuinely this is one of my highest quality fics imo besides the typos so cool
cause most of us are bitter over someone - i peaked at the dinner argument scene and have been chasing that high ever since. cunt serve
and you caused it - okay biased but the underground city getting fucked up beyond belief and niki having a screaming crying breakdown that effectively halts her misery-spiral-attempt at what she thinks is a redemption arc so badly that tommy has to get techno to do a welfare check on her is a concept that deserved a Full fic written about it. oops.
you think they'll make it? - showstopping. why write a whole hadestown au when i could just write this scene? doesn't overstay its welcome and hits the exact vibes i wanted. RIP hellhound fungi you didn't deserve that but i enjoyed writing it
rousseau's man in the state of nature - YES i'm biased bc it's my baby but this fic has no reason to exist and does anyway. i had to ban myself from listening to loscamp while writing my research paper bc otherwise i would have had to submit three freaks bitching at each other and having horrible friendship breakdowns to the australian journal of yadda yah. act 2 is calling me
writers block this writers block that. is there anything worse than writing something and thinking to yourself, this does not serve cunt

𓏹 Fallen Debris .
Camilo Madrigal x GN!Reader
Author's Note. You guys seem to be a sucker for angst just like I am, so here you go! A little contribution to the list of Tumblr's angsty Camilo fics. I never thought I'd be motivated to write again. Even as simple as getting comments and notes really does a lot to someone, and I'm grateful for it all! I also cried while writing some of the parts so I hope that's worth it. Here's a fic made especially with love, constant repeat of dos oruguitas for setting up the mood, and tears.
Category — imagine, angst, romance.
Notes and Warnings — english not being the author's first language, second person's point of view, camilo being angry and saying hurtful words, bullying, mentions of blood.
Summary — after the disastrous dinner where Mariano and Isabella were supposed to come out engaged, you and Camilo had an extremely heated argument about Bruno after defending him causing your relationship to deteriorate completely. You were there when Mirabel and Abuela fought causing the downfall of Casita — you along with it.
And when Camilo found your unresponsive figure underneath the piles and rubbles of the fallen shelter's debris, well . . . ( 8.45k words )
Tumblr media
You didn't know how you ended up here, chest heaving filled with disdain towards the boy you used to adore in front of you. You started the day so happy. How could you end up like this? It was all joyous. The day was clear and harmonious. How did this all happen?
You frowned at the Madrigal who mirrored you.
See, you were one of the townspeople that helped with La Casita. Needless to say, you were the painter of the town. You created portraits and arts all across Encanto since you turned 10. You were an art prodigy, the star of brushes and paints. You created a special bond with Camilo Madrigal and the live house itself, and from then on, you became someone in every step of La Casa Madrigal's ground.
Camilo was so bright then. He always asked you to come over to paint this and that, to teach him how to stroke a line with a brush, how to create an outline, and finish an art with your very secret technique called showing the canvas with love and affection. He found it silly, but he never did mind.
Despite the countless paintings in his room, Camilo only had eyes for you. Only you, and nothing else. He thought you were the most priceless art he's ever seen. Your colours were so vibrant, especially your eyes. The way your creator outlined you as a whole fascinated him, he wanted to learn how to paint just so he could make so many images of you.
Everyone didn't know what to make of him when he started becoming so fond of Encanto's art prodigy. He never ended a day without mentioning you or your works. He would always say such things as, "I wonder if they were born perfect," or "The world is a better place with them around."
You heard this all from Mirabel complaining how her cousin just wouldn't shut up about you or your "flowy hair", she playfully cringed.
So, when he confessed his feelings and found out you reciprocated it, he was over the moon, so past cloud 9 that he could just die the happiest man right there and then.
When that happened, you came more often, giving excuses that you wanted to give Pepa a gift. You did, but you stayed longer that everyone thought Casita held you hostage. Kidding aside, the family loved your paintings, causing them to keep asking for more and more until you found one peculiar spot when you were examining a framed photo. Casita warned you not to go, but you were curious as to what was there.
Needless to say, you gained awareness of the purest 'missing' Madrigal living inside the walls and became the best of friends.
And when you did, you were protective and secretive of his existence just like he asked — no, practically begged of you.
So, when you were invited to dine with the Madrigals, expecting the proposal of Mariano to Isabella, you kept a few foods on your plate for Bruno to have later. He can't just keep grabbing leftovers from the kitchen counters. You looked over at Camilo who sat across from you and smiled. Much to your dismay, he did not return the gesture. Your significant other has been cold these past few days and you were not sure why.
That's when you noticed Dolores, Mirabel, and Tío Agustín acting strange. What was going on?
A few more disasters later, the truth was out and everyone was soaked with Tía Pepa's rain. Luisa's powers were gone, Isabella was angry, Camilo was a half Mariano, half baby, the actual Mariano and his concerned mother were sat there panicking, and basically everyone was out of it. All because of Bruno and his last vision. You didn't understand the reaction. You didn't know about this, but why?
"Why does it seem like you believe Tío Bruno made this prophecy? I know he could never do such a thing like this. He can only read the future, not make it. It's not his fault nor Mirabel's!" You stated as everyone looked at you, incredulous. Abuela dropped her fork at your words as if it gave so much more information than what it should have.
"Y/N!" Camilo called and frowned at you. He looked at his abuela and awkwardly let out a laugh, "I'm so sorry, Abuela. She must have eaten something."
You scoffed. How was that possible?
"No, Camilo. I don't understand why everyone seems so against him when he did nothing wrong." You continued. Pepa's cloud thundered. You slightly jumped at that. Oh, no. You were making everyone mad, but you had to defend your best friend. Your fifty-year-old best friend who spent a decade alone with his rat friends in those cracking walls, patching them as the family slowly fell apart.
"Do you know where Bruno is?" the head of the Madrigals suddenly asked.
Uh-oh. You didn't think of that. You shook your head and simply stated an apology to cover your lies. "I don't know."
"Do you know what he's like?" She asked with a stern tone, making Camilo sulk in his seat.
"No, Abuela. I'm sorry." You quietly replied as you looked down in shame.
"Then don't say another word. You were not supposed to know whatever it is that you know about Bruno. You speak as if you know him well." She stood up as Mariano and his mother stormed off. What she said next bore a hole to your chest. "And know your place in this house, Y/N. You're not a Madrigal."
She turned to Camilo who was as wide-eyed as everyone else on the table, "I will talk to the two of you once I fix this mess."
That's when everyone got out of their seats as well to get out of the awkward dining room. Pepa only looked at you with sympathy, so did everyone else, but Camilo's eyes expressed something different. His eyebrows were just a centimetre apart, his lips curled in a way that he radiated rage.
You stepped back from where you stood alone in the kitchen. The place was now silent. Everyone was out to tend to Mariano or retreat to their rooms after the catastrophe. But you and Camilo only stood there glaring at each other.
"We need to talk." He started and slightly raised his arms, his ruana wrinkling from the action. "What was that, Y/N?"
"You know I was defending your Tío Bruno, Camilo. Don't lecture me. I did the right thing, I know it."
"Did you really? Because the last time I checked that was disrespectful, and not only did you say that to my Abuela, you acted as if you knew about my family so well!" He yelled.
Silence, then, he walked out of the kitchen to go back to his room. You followed after, apologising multiple times until you reached his room and got inside, closing the door.
"Do I not know about your family, Camilo? Do I seem so naive about your history? Do I look like I never spent time to know about everyone just so I could be approved by the people in this house? Do I look like I didn't try at all?" You asked as his back faced you. "Because I did! I tried my best to please you."
"This is not about you, Y/N," he sighed.
"Then why?"
"Why what?"
"Why are we like this? Why do I not feel your support? You don't feel warm anymore and you haven't been since the past few days. What happened to you?" He turned to you once he heard the question.
"What happened to me? What happened to you, Y/N? You've never acted so recklessly before. What is it with my tío that you snapped so much like that? Do you know where he even is?"
"No, I don't!" You answered.
"Then why do you act like you do? See? This is why I don't understand you sometimes. You keep things hidden from me when you know you could trust me. Why are you being like this? I thought we're open to each other?"
"Listen, I don't know about your tio, but I'm sure that there was more to the story that everyone so much speaks of. What if Bruno was out there struggling? Have you never thought about him being alone after all this time that he left? How could you not feel sympathy for him and just fear? Do you seriously believe he makes bad things happen? Because that's ridiculous and you know it!"
He only stared at you, unable to think of something to respond. So, you continued.
"You may never know if he was out there, cold on rainy days, covering himself with his own clothes that smelled like home he always remembered being so warm. What if he had nothing to eat but scraps that he shared with his rats he called his friends? What if he missed his family? Missed Tía Julieta's freshly made arepas, Tía Pepa's rainbows and sunshine? Abuela's lessons about keeping the miracle alive? What if he had so little but still shared until he had nothing? Have you ever thought of that? All of us never knew why he left. Maybe there was a missing piece we forgot to look at. You all chose to fear him, think of him as a villain, but have you ever empathised?"
Camilo squinted his eyes at you, unsure what to make of you. The more you said something, the more he grew suspicious of you. You seemed to have been keeping so much from him and it pained him to say, he was slowly losing trust.
"Tell me the truth, Y/N." He walked closer to you, "Do you know where Tío Bruno is?"
You got intimidated by that, but you stood your ground and shook your head, "I—"
"Don't lie to me this time, Y/N."
You felt like you were shrinking as the distance got narrower. Nevertheless, you chose to hold your breath and look at him with a stern expression. Your eyes never faltered at the furious sight of the Madrigal.
This time, you were the one to step closer, stopping just a few inches in front of him, but no. The atmosphere was not intimate as it was a few months ago. There was no passion in his eyes, no love, no empathy.
Just anger.
And it tore you. It broke your heart into millions of shards, cutting through the walls of your chest. So you stood there, fighting back the lump on your throat. "I don't know what you want me to say, but I'm already telling you this and I'm not repeating it again. I don't know where Tío Bruno is."
"Then this discussion is over. I already knew the answer before you told me." He stepped back and stopped to tell you something else, "I don't think I can trust you anymore."
"So, that's it?" You asked.
"What else do you want to talk about, Y/N? It's not like you're going to be honest with me anyway."
"What is wrong with you, Camilo? You weren't like this before! What did I do wrong? Why are you being like this? You know I tried for you — so, so hard, and this is what we'll end up being?"
"Where were you the times that I needed you? Disappearing all the time. Have you heard what they're saying about us, Y/N? Have you heard how much they hated this thing between us?" He turned around to face you, nose starting to flush red, eyes getting glossy, and ears turning into a deep shade of crimson.
"Thing? This thing is what this relationship means to you? And I know. I've heard! Why would you listen?! I thought we shouldn't mind them because we have each other?! What's going on with the both of us, Camilo? Do you still feel something? Am I still someone to you? Did the words get right into your head? Because I don't understand anything." The house creaked underneath you, but you were both too into the heat of the moment that none of you decided to back down.
"Then maybe we don't have each other after all," he mumbled.
"What?" You questioned under your breath as you looked at him in disbelief. What did he just say? That was that. The knot that twined your heart in place snapped as if it dropped to your stomach, feeling the pain of what you never thought would come. Does this mean what you think it means?
Even the Madrigal himself was taken aback by what he said, but because of determination to win this argument, he stuck with it. He watched as your frown got more intense, a tear slipping from your eye that he used to cherish so much. You quickly wiped it off with your fingers and fought your desire to break down in front of him.
"I knew you were embarrassed to be with me this whole time. Of course, because you just had to be so perfect, do you?" You shrugged your shoulders in defeat, looking at him in the eyes and expressing yourself through your words. Your voice was shaking. It felt so restrained from the huge lump on your throat. "Ah, the amazing Madrigal!" You sarcastically waved your hands to mock the cheers he received outside the doors of Casita. "So alluring, so gifted, so perfect!"
"And then there's me," you continued, your arms falling to your sides. "The art prodigy who tries so hard to please everyone like a dog but with a brush, the useless child of my parents, the pity-joiner of the Madrigals. Who would believe that you dated me without explanations, right? Because I'm Y/N the one everyone should pity and at the same time, talk bad about. I'm Y/N who's an embarrassment, and a liar."
"Y/N, no." Camilo tried to walk towards you and grab your hand, but you stepped back and pulled your hand away before the warmth of his skin touched yours.
"I'll apologise to Abuela and explain for you." You turned around and opened the door, but before you left, you did one thing that made your significant other's freckled cheeks stained with tears. You swivelled and embraced him one last time, taking his hand and forcing it to open. You took the necklace made out of shells off your neck and placed it there, closing his palms once again. A hand of yours found its way to his cheek, wiping the hot liquid.
"Maybe it's not me," you finally said. "Maybe it's not me all along, and I understand."
"Please, Y/N. I didn't want it to end this way. Don't leave," he whispered and pulled you in a hug, soaking your sleeves with his wet tears. "Stay. I'm sorry. I'm sorry I couldn't trust you enough. I'll be better, I promise. I'll tell them to stop. I'll teach myself how to treat you better. I'll learn for the best, just don't leave."
But you weren't sure if that was true anymore. You've felt and felt it all that you couldn't take it back. So, you pat his back, pulled away, shook your head and walked out.
By the time you did, you heard an argument downstairs. So, you went and checked it out only to find Mirabel and the head of the house fighting in the middle of their own home. The candle's bright light was slowly getting dimmer and the house creaked again.
" — but it is not an excuse for you to hurt this family!"
You watched the scene unfold, unable to speak in your state. You felt like you didn't have the right to. A few more things were said. You wanted to go and take Mirabel by the hand so you could walk out for some fresh air, but something held you back. God, why were you so scared of them?
"I will never be good enough for you, will I? . . . No matter how hard I try." A painful sensation in your chest was felt again. You concentrated your gaze on the youngest child of Tía Julieta and Tío Agustín.
"Mirabel?" You called, giving her a look to be careful. She turned to you and quickly looked away.
"No matter how hard any of us tries. Luisa will never be strong enough. Isabella won't be perfect enough. Y/N? Even if they weren't a part of us, they deserve better for sticking up to someone who needed it. And Bruno left our family because you only saw the worst in him. "
"Bruno never cared about this family!" Abuela exclaimed as you frowned, mumbling a sombre 'what?'. Not noticing Camilo who got out of his room once he heard the commotion downstairs. There he spotted you but looked away, trying to refrain from ever thinking of what just happened. His family needed him now.
"He loves this family. I love this family. We all love this family. You're the one who doesn't care. You're the one breaking our home." The group shook as the floor around them cracked. You were alarmed by this and quickly looked around.
"Don't you ever — "
"The miracle is dying because of you!"
You gasped and looked at Mirabel. You understood what she felt, and took the words right out of everyone's mouth. Suddenly, the ground between them cracked, snapping them into two different spaces.
"No, no, no, no, no!" Tía Pepa shouted in distress.
"Mirabel, the candle!" You yelled from upstairs and tried your best to think of a way to get there and help Mirabel, but something — someone else made it into your mind in a panic.
Bruno.
He must not know what was happening. Or maybe he was, and he was listening. You pitied the man, truly. You were his only friend, not knowing he had already met Mirabel and Dolores and Antonio already knew about his presence behind the walls.
"Casita, get me up there!" The girl who wore glasses went up the ladder Casita prepared from the upstairs railing.
"Be careful, Mira!" You said. Isabella tried to go after the candle just like Mirabel was, but failed once she struck a wine only for it to disappear due to the fading magic.
"Y/N, you have to get out!" You heard Pepa shout from downstairs, but you were too stubborn to listen causing Camilo to frown as you ran somewhere.
"I need a diversion! I have to warn someone about this!" You told Mirabel.
"What?! A diversion?"
"For something behind the painting!" You replied, causing Mirabel's eyes to light up, understanding what you just said.
"Be careful, Y/N!"
Well, it looked like you didn't even need diversion after all. The eyes of the Madrigals were set on your friend and that was exactly what you needed. You quickly ran towards the painting with a secret passage behind it. The rats were running out in panic.
On the other hand, Antonio pointed to where you've gone only to see you disappear behind the frame. "Where is Y/N going?"
Camilo mentally groaned. He could've known you were going to do this, but he just couldn't fathom ever losing you to this accident. So, he readied his stance and ran. Thinking you might be taking a secret passageway to the tower where the candle was placed, he aimed for it and took a big leap, shape-shifting to make himself succeed on the mission. But, the fight messed with the magic, the candle was dimmer, fallen, and the tiles were cracked. The magic was getting weaker and weaker and soon, he joined Isabella on the ground, looking at each other with worry painted all across their faces.
Mirabel however, continued to save the candle, thinking to herself that she hoped Casita would help you if had gone under bad things during your time trying to save Bruno.
"Mirabel!"
"Mirabel, leave it!"
She couldn't. Before she could tiptoe to get the candle, she saw her dear Tío Bruno out and safe with a bucket over his head and a rat he considered as his only companion.
"Oh, no. Y/N." She whispered to herself, but there was no time. She had to save the miracle. She fully believed in her friend, you. You were clever in many more ways than one.
You were struggling to walk through the falling bits of the walls as you examined how ruined the passageway was to Bruno's home for the past decade. You were coughing. It was hard to see from the mist that the dust created and some of it getting in your eye. "Bruno? Tío Bruno? Hernando?!" You called out.
Your struggle kept getting worse and worse as the ground shook again but this time, more intense. The roof was falling apart above you, and all you had were your hands to cover your head. Your skin had spots of purple, cuts of red, and your heart was beating fast inside your chest. You were getting hopeless of getting out of here, but you had someone to save.
What if . . . Bruno's already safe?
The standing roof above your space cracked and creaked. You mumbled quiet no's. You were scared. There was no denying it. You were afraid if it would hurt to die, but not afraid of death itself. It was pain that you most certainly feared, and oh the things you would give right now just to feel numb.
"Camilo?!" You called in fear. "Mirabel?!" You circled in your place until you saw an open spot when Bruno must have left. You were about to head out when the roof fell, blocking your only way out. "Casita?!"
"No, no, no," you muttered over and over until you noticed a small creature crawling through a small crack. It looked up at you. It was one of those rats and it looked weak.
You gasped, "You're one of Tío Bruno's friends. The aunt in the telenovela." You gently took it with your dust covered hands, covering it protectively. "I'll get you out of here."
You squinted your eyes at the small entrance where the rat came from. It seemed to have come back for something as the crack led to the painting. You just had to remove this big wood blocking the way. Or maybe, you had to go over it. You looked up and found an open space. "Hang on tight on my shirt, okay?"
You settled it in your top's pocket and carefully made your way over the blockade, getting yourself out of the passage before it crumbled completely. And now you were standing there on the ruined second floor. The wood underneath you moved with life, "Casita, where's Mirabel?"
The wood you stepped on snapped as you whimpered, "She'll make it work, I know it."
You stepped on the stone part quickly once the wood crumbled, palming your pocket to feel the shaking creature inside. Then, you looked up to see Mirabel struggling as the tower was about to fall down. Casita was getting weaker and weaker.
You knew it could save only one of you.
Your breath hitched at the sound of her screaming. "Mirabel!"
"Y/N!"
"Casita, whatever happens take care of Mirabel, please!" The despair in your voice was enough to let your friend know what you were about to do. She looked at you in disbelief and shook her head.
"What? No, Y/N. You have to get out of here!"
The time seemed to go so slow as you looked at Mirabel probably the last time before forcing a smile to tug on your lips. You leisurely nodded your head as another tear made its way down your hopeless facade just like the materials that were once you called your second home. You raised a hand slightly, "It'll be fine, Mirabel. Just save the miracle for your family."
You knew it was the end. You knew what you were signing up for. You knew the risks, and Mirabel Madrigal had more important roles. You believe in her. You know she could do it. She was the strongest of the Madrigals, and bias or not, that's what you believed.
"Y/N! Mirabel!" You heard everyone calling and then,
"No! You can't do this. Y/N!" She protested, but it was already too late once the stone pillar that used to support the second story of the house crumbled, sending you down without support. Your body was already sore, and you would be lying if you said it didn't hurt. It hurt badly. "Y/N!"
The chair, the door, whatever it was, you saw it moving over to Mirabel to act as a shelter to protect her from the falling debris. You felt something coming to you but it soon stopped right before it could do something to alleviate the impact of the last of La Casa Madrigal's piles and rubbles on you.
The rocks, dust, woods, steels and other more things came raining down on your helpless figure, putting your hands to cover your neck and at the same time, making room for Bruno's tiny companion so it could live.
The rat squeaked so many times, syncing with the sound of your groans and the falling objects. You didn't know what it was that hit your side that it hurt so bad you couldn't help but scream. You heard your name everywhere. There were different voices in the static noise you heard. You whimpered, still feeling the urge to live, but it was all slowly fading as you felt weaker, colder, . . . numb. The last that you saw was the rat moving to your neck to squeal endlessly, trying its best to keep you conscious.
It smelled so much like dust and iron with your blood. You were scared. You were so afraid. You were helpless and in such terrible pain as you felt the weight of the debris above you. You couldn't get yourself to say anything.
Your breath was shorter, faster as if you were chasing your hope to live. You shut your burning eyes with piercing tears, but before you could think of something to do, the faces of the people that mattered to you played like a movie scene, bidding you goodbye.
Memories were rewinded, keeping you calm, not knowing it was the last of what you'd see as you felt the blood rushing in your veins slowly falter.
It was your fifth birthday when you received your very first set of art materials and your father was smiling widely, holding the warm hand of his beloved over his shoulder as they looked at their child exploring the world of imagination. You giggled as you painted a four-legged creature coloured in grey with pink tail. "Estás recibiendo pinturas por toda tu ropa, mi amor." ( You're getting paint all over your clothes, my love. ) You heard your mother chuckle.
"I heard you crying, what's wrong?" You remembered the time you were much older but still so fresh and young staring up at a doe-eyed Dolores. Then, Isabella came handing you some flowers in an attempt to make you smile at the loveliness. Mirabel lent you a hand to help you to your feet as Felix and Agustín took the canvas with your proudest painting yet from the puddles of mud. Pepa made it thunder, glaring at the children who caused the catastrophe. And there came Julieta with her arepas, giving you one so it could heal the scrape on your knee. Their abuela cleared her throat as she slowly walked towards you, "We've been expecting you, but it seems as though I need to have a word with the children's guardians in town to refrain this from ever happening again."
That's when you slowly looked up and up to La Familia Madrigal. They were caring people and had loved your art, asking you to paint them instead of using the fast method of the camera. Even Casita insisted that you paint a beautiful pattern on its ground. And that pattern that remained etched on the floor for so many years. You remembered how they all looked at you. As if you needed a careful touch of protection. As if you were a part of their family.
And what hurt the most was when you thought you fit in, when you thought you're already a part of them, you had messed up and lost the opportunity to be a true Madrigal not by name but at heart.
That's when your mind clicked on someone else. Someone who made you feel so true, as if you were the art you painted.
( Hello! Please play 'Dos Oruguitas by Sebastián Yatra' while reading this part. I promise it's what makes it more fun to read. You won't even regret it! )
You remembered the first time you ever got to say a word to Camilo Madrigal — Where the sky was clear and filled with lighter shades of blue. Where the birds flew so freely with the cotton clouds, and the sun was so bright it could turn the world into a spinning jewel. He was younger, smaller, care-free but still taller. You recalled the warmth in his smile, sending you to fall without warning. He was radiant, and you adored the way you saw him look at you. The way you met was common and simple, like any other interactions strangers have. Nevertheless, he never failed to make your hand spark. He lit up your heart with joy.
Then months passed by again, that's when you saw him brighter, clearer. Camilo Madrigal! What a name to speak like ancient poetry. His smile became wider every time he spotted you in a crowd, or was it just you? His crooked teeth a few years back became so perfect you swore you saw it sparkle. Or was it his eyes when he talked about what made his day better? You weren't sure why you felt like this, but you found it better than staring at your accomplished works.
Because he was art itself. He was the root of the trees you painted with earthly versions of brown, just like his eyes and stars of freckles that scattered across his sun-kissed skin. Every stroke, every brush, every little spray of pigment on him was perfect. He was so perfect in your eyes even despite his own flaws.
He was the field of roses and daisies. The valley of fireflies up the mountains hued with orange and purples. His words swayed you in every way just like the moment you danced under the golden light of the town. It was the necklace made with seashells that bound you together the night he held your hands and expressed how his heart beat fast whenever you were present. How he has never even ever felt that way before, or maybe that was just because you and him were young and didn't know what exactly loving was.
That necklace of seashells was the symbol of his affections to you, made only with determination and feelings that bow could never be.
Camilo wasn't like that anymore. He wasn't the same as the kid you danced with the night the moon was full above Encanto, wondering what it was like to be human and not just a celestial body peering over the darkened clouds.
He never held your hand, never looked at you the way he used to. He was a burning flame slightly fading and you didn't know what caused it, but to you, he was still as perfect. He was the world itself and you put your faith in him.
"The Madrigals only pitied them, that's why they're always in their house."
"Why would they always come? Aren't their parents taking care of them enough?"
"I heard they don't know how to pronounce 'denouement'. Maybe that's why their parents couldn't stand them."
"That's a little harsh. You should feel bad for them."
"Everyone pities Y/N, Allerà. That's why they're getting the special treatment."
"Camilo must be embarrassed to be with them."
"If only he could see how much of a mess they truly are."
You quietly sobbed at the memories. You remembered how you argued with Camilo, how he didn't even flinch to say the words you dreaded to hear. He was careless when he held you. And soon, he cried just for you. He begged you to stay, chased after you when you decided to be selfless again.
'You didn't deserve to be with a Madrigal from the very beginning anyway. What were you thinking? Did you really think you could be a part of them?'
You squeezed your eyes shut to get rid of the voices, but it was of no use. But then, it was replaced with the last of your memories.
"What happened, Antonio?" You asked the frowning boy, looking at the ground so little compared to you.
"I fought with the other kids today, Y/N. They were really mean," he explained and looked up at you as you raised his chin, smiling sadly.
"What did they say?"
"They were talking bad about you." Suddenly, Camilo walked in with a frown as he heard the response. He brought his palm to his forehead and groaned.
"They're crossing the line. I'm going to talk to them tomorrow. Don't worry, Antonio. We'll never let them say mean things to Y/N again."
"Camilo, please. Just let them be. It doesn't hurt me."
"Stop lying to me to save them, mi amor. I know how it affects you," he said and looked at Antonio, "Papa called for you outside."
And once Antonio was out of the room, Camilo rushed to you and opened his arms to bring you in closer to his chest, letting you rest your head on his shoulder. "You don't have to be afraid, Y/N. We have each other until Encanto crumbles — which will never happen, by the way, so that means forever and forever will be you and m — "
"Sh," you placed your finger on his lips and placed a small kiss on his forehead, "I'm already okay. You don't have to worry."
If only you could laugh, you would. The irony of that moment and the literal crumbling of Encanto, what a jest.
You wanted to live, but you had already lived your life. There was enough happiness and despair. You were satisfied with that. So, with the last of your energy, you smiled, embracing the fact that this was your fate. You were bound to live lifeless. And this was your peace greeting you, no matter how hard and painful.
"I'll be fine." You reassured the rat before your curled fingers slowly uncurled, your eyes closed without another sense, and your body shut down. The noises you heard were gone. The colours that flushed you to life were faint. Your body numbed, and the voices that called your name were never heard again.
Unfortunate, that's what you were.

Camilo instantaneously ran across the ruined home, careless about the fact that Pepa told him not to. His heart was pounding like a constant drum. The boy's face was etched with worry as his eyes landed on his cousin who successfully saved the candle, but now there was something different about it. The light was gone.
Mirabel sobbed as Julieta ran fast to hug her. Camilo was next to consult his cousin. "Mirabel! Goodness, I was so worried. You shouldn't have gone for the candle." She squeezed her tight as she sobbed and held on to her mother.
"Mirabel, are you okay?" Camilo asked. She looked at him and shook her head.
"I'm sorry, Camilo," she said. His heart panged with more fear at her answer. A breath escaped his lips as his heart stung. He knew what she meant, but he had to be sure. He couldn't accept it.
"Sorry for what?" He questioned, but his cousin only gave him a look through her glasses, her eyes watering with tears.
The freckled boy leisurely shook his head and took a step back, not wanting to believe what her eyes told him that happened. He looked away, "No, they can't be."
"Y/N's alive, Mirabel. I know it." He said in denial as he tugged his poncho to cover himself from the cold that made him shiver but, perhaps it wasn't the cold. It was something else.
"What is it? What happened?" Pepa suddenly asked as she walked closer to place a hand on Camilo's shoulder, but he resisted, holding back the tears threatening to spill.
"Mamí, I don't see Y/N anywhere," Antonio mumbled. Felix quickly took him and turned him around so he wouldn't witness the dreaded things. He covered the boy's ear with his hand and instructed him to use his hands to block his hearing.
"Where are they?" Isabella asked.
"I don't know. They were somewhere over there, but I don't know where they ended up."
"I can't hear anything. Our powers are gone."
Agustín sighed and gave his daughter a reassuring pat, "We'll find them."
"Stay here, Mirabel. Don't move until I find something for you and Y/N."
Soon, everyone scattered around to look for the missing subject, Camilo being the first to run around and digging from all of the litters that could have possibly had you underneath. He never stopped. Even if his hands shook and weakened, he never gave up.
He earned cuts and scrapes from all of it, but he just couldn't let you be. He prayed he wouldn't find you in danger. He wished he would but rather you unharmed. He pushed through the mountains of discarded matters, chest heaving and scared of what he might find.
"Come on, come on, Y/N. You better not be — "
He wouldn't know what he would do if he ever finds you under one of these. His eyes were stinging with tears, and he couldn't even say a thing. There was a lump stuck in his throat. He swore he felt dizzy from it. The thoughts of you gone? He shut his eyes closed. No, you wouldn't end up like that. You were strong.
"Camilo!" He heard Pepa call. He turned and looked at his mother who, despite having her powers gone, somehow had Encanto's troposphere drizzling. Her eyes told him something, something he desired to be clueless off, and that's what made him look at everyone else for confirmation. Every single one wore the same solemn look which scared him.
The hairs of his body stood as he tried to blink his tears off, letting out a sob he refrained before he sprinted towards the spot where they found you. His life, the sun in his world, the tree that stood so tall in the field of his life. The only one in the billion he cared to envision his future with.
And when he saw you there, his world stopped. His steps stuttered. His eyebrows furrowed and pulled upwards to where it met at the sight. The lump on his throat only got bigger causing him to let it all out as he shook his head in denial once again, "No. Y/N!"
He rushed towards you and pushed the big chunks of wood and stone that weighed your unresponsive state. Agustín and Felix both helped the boy who desperately took the boulders off, weeping as he did so.
"It's going to be fine. I'm here, I'm here!" You were now accessible to get out of the narrow space you've struggled in. Your back was facing the grumbling sky as Pepa couldn't help herself but gasp and turn around not wanting to see how you ended up under the wreckage, cheeks wet with tears and blood as it rested on your left arm. Your free hand was embracing your cold skin but also appeared as if you were protecting something from being crushed by the weight.
He grabbed you by the shoulder and turned you around, but you were still stuck. He turned to the men, "They're still stuck — please get them out. I can't do it, I hate to — I just — " He couldn’t finish himself in between his hitching breath. It was getting harder and harder to breathe the second he processed more and more of what happened to you. He was angry, but most of his feelings were showered with grief and regret.
Once you were released, he laid your head on his lap, placing his palm on your face he used to adore. Look at how you turned out. If he hadn't let you go, you wouldn’t have suffered. "Y/N, I got you now. Wake up."
This is the part where he couldn't hold himself any longer and cried out in defeat, embracing you in an attempt to warm you. “I’m here. I was looking for you. I kept calling you. I wanted to apologise, and when I saw you go inside to do whatever it was you were so selfless enough to do, I just — I lost it.”
He shook your shoulders and brushed the strand of hair that covered your face that he held so delicately as if it was porcelain and glass all at the same time, "It's time to get up, mi vida."
It started pouring heavier rain as Camilo heard his mother weeping along with everyone else. Then, footsteps were heard appearing to have run far away. Mirabel. She must have had enough of swallowing the lump in her throat. No matter how it pained her, she didn’t want anyone to see her crying. She needed her time alone. You were her best friend. You stood by her, and you acted like her older sister even despite only being many months old. To think that she could never see you again. She whispered incoherent words.
He was getting more and more frustrated. He just wanted you back. Was that so hard? Camilo blamed the rain, the candle, anything that he could because of his fury, but what good did it do?
"Wake up. Wake up!" He exclaimed as he shook you even harder. Your eyes he was excited to see the very first thing in the morning that you came to visit his family to bring spices your parents worked hard to make never fluttered open. They were as still as your body, refusing to wake up no matter how hard he tried to bring you back. He regretted it. He regretted every single thing he told you earlier that day. He wanted to bring every word back to himself, and he would do anything just to make that happen. He would trade his soul for you to wake up and flash him that smile that never changed.
For him you were art. You truly were the most brilliant striking art he's ever seen, and out of all the paintings you made, you were the only one he never got tired of looking at. You were the landscape of his own world, the view that recharged him whenever he was exhausted from cheering people up. He didn't know what exact pigment they were but your lips and eyes fascinated him to the very core.
"Why would you come back?! Why would you risk your life? I told you. I told you to stay. If only I knew, I wouldn't have let you."
To see the colours wash away from you felt like he himself was at the verge of his death. How could he live without you? How could he get up every morning knowing that there wouldn't be a familiar knock on the door of his home? How could the sun rise if you weren't there?
The world was a black and white film before you came along and changed the way of living. Now it was back to where it had all begun, and once again, he was hopeless.
Living is not living without the person that made the gloomy days better.
"I'll do better, I swear, just come back!"
He gripped your shirt and rested his head on top of yours as the rain washed the tears away, removing the blood on your skin, and soaking every single one of you with the droplets of liquid from the sky, "Come back, come back, come back!" He whispered, his hands shaking from how his fingers clutched the fabric of your cloth.
"Remember the first painting you gave me? Remember how I clumsily stumbled and ripped the canvas, but instead of you yelling at me, you laughed and told me you could make it again? Or that time when we both stole arepas from Tía Julieta's kitchen and she chased after us with a rodillo?" He chuckled and stared at your hands, slowly twining your fingers with his. "What about living in a house together, just you and I when we grow up? What about eating and joking around, laughing until our stomachs hurt? What if having each other until — until Encanto falls apart? Come on, you have to get up. You have to wake up. Please, please, amor. I need you. I — "
"Camilo," Dolores put a hand on his shoulder as she bent her knees to sit beside him. He glanced at his sister. She squeezed him, reassuring him before her eyes mirrored hopelessness.
He did admit. He was growing tired. His eyes couldn't cry anymore. His heart broke, but nothing else came out of him, just exhaustion from being a blubbering mess.
He looked at what used to be his life and death, and suddenly, a rat came crawling on his shoulder, squeaking and pointing to his partner.
Isabella was next to sit beside him, "They must have saved this little thing."
That only hurt more. He didn't know what to do, but it wasn't out of his knowledge that he needed some time alone to himself and his feelings. He wished you were here. He wished it so bad but,
"There's nothing else we can do," Dolores whispered in a melancholic tone.
He gently rested you back to the ground, "I'll come back."
"Camilo?"
"Camilo, where are you going?"
Nowhere. He didn't know what else to say, do, or think. He was completely blocked. The boy wasn't sure if he wanted to ask for help from anyone else. He wanted to disappear. He stood up and turned around, pushing past his family to run off somewhere he could be alone.
The rat squeaked louder to get everyone's attention. Its tiny paw pointed to you as your eyelids twitched once.
Isabella turned to it, "What's going on?"
The rat squeaked again. Dolores snapped her head in its direction this time. "What?"
It pointed to you. This time it was your chest that showed signs of life, moving slightly. This alarmed the cousins, "Y/N!"
"They're gone, Isabella," Agustín sobbed.
"No. Pa, look! I think they're alive!"
Camilo turned around at that.
You wanted to live. You wanted to breathe again. What is this void? Why do you feel tired? Why does everything hurt? All you wanted was to feel alive. You were not ready to say goodbye. Not now. It can't be now. You still desired a life with the Madrigals. You want to see Camilo every single day. You want to witness every flower bloom, hear every gossip you can, eat so much you'll feel like you'll pop, watch the sun and dance under the rain, paint your family all over again. You wanted your heart to beat so fast, feeling alive than you have ever before.
You wanted to live. You needed to live.
You felt weak. What was happening? Why was it so cold? You felt your finger twitch.
Camilo's eyes widened and immediately went to you, gently pushing the women in his family aside as he walked towards you and looked at the rat with a grateful nod. "Y/N? Y/N. Can you hear me?"
You heard it, all right. But everything was muffled. Your body suddenly trembled, you felt like you bathed in a tub of Alaskan snow.
"Y/N!"
You opened your eyes slightly as it burned from the light. The static noises were back again and the pain on your back struck you with a crashing wave of displeasure. You winced, "Camilo?"
He could barely make out what you were saying, but the way your lips moved was familiar and he knew exactly what you had just said. It was his name he never thought he could hear from you again.
He smiled and hugged you tighter, "Yes, that's my name! That's exactly my name! You're awake — "
"I'm sorry," hot tears fell again as you hugged the soaking wet boy.
"It's not your fault, corazon. It never was!" He kissed your forehead once, twice, three times and more, savouring the moment that you were alive. You were okay, barely, but you were here again in between his arms.
He quickly removed his poncho and draped it over your shoulders as you were freezing cold. Suddenly, the clouds cleared up and the sky was blue again, just like the moment you and him talked for the first time.
"I thought I'd lost you. I thought you're gone and I couldn't live with myself."
Perhaps you were not unfortunate after all. Mirabel, Abuela, and . . . was that Bruno? It was! They all arrived at the right moment as they came rushing towards you once again crushing you with their embrace.
"Woah, woah, woah! Everyone take it easy on them. They're still hurt!" Camilo protectively warned as he cupped your cheek again, you leaning against his palm.
He's so young he never believed he knew what love is, but seeing you, there he knew the answer to his own question.
You were his faith and his faith resided in you. You were home. You were everything to him and not a million diamond could ever compare.
Who could have believed that out of all those artworks that you painted, whether it offends you or not, you were still the best piece of all.
You were not an artless progeny of your loving parents. You were not a fleeting belief. You were just you. Just you who completed the puzzle in his life.
And when your parents found out what happened to you, let's just say all hell broke loose. But there was nothing a Madrigal and a flawless Y/N can't resolve.
Who knew his epiphany has always been destined to be found under the fallen debris?

FINAL: Davis (Juror 8) from Twelve Angry Men vs the Bimodal Distribution from statistics

Summary: You get to talk to Steve while he’s on a mission
Word count: 1.5k
Pairing: Daddy!Stucky x Little!Reader (fem language used)
A/N: My longest fic ever so far! I’ve had this idea bouncing around my brain since I first started this blog and I finally got it down into words. I already kind of want to write a part 2 😳 Unrelated to the fic but I’m really close to 100 followers 😵😵 and I’m so excited! I’ve been having a lot of doubts about my place here but you guys’s kindness makes it all worth it 💕🥰💕
You couldn’t help it, you missed your Steve so bad it hurt. The stress of him being off on a mission formed a rock in your stomach that wouldn’t go away no matter how much you cried. You were only supposed to be separated from him for 3 days, always sad to say goodbye for any amount of time, but you still had Bucky to keep you warm and cozy while Steve was gone. But 3 days turned to nearly a week, and now Sunday was here, your family movie day, and Steve was still gone. He texted you (or rather Bucky, who relayed the texts to you) as often as he could, but the mission was consuming most of his time.
You clung to Bucky’s bicep on the couch as Rapunzel danced around the square with all the townsfolk, a scene that usually had you dancing all around the living room just like the princess, but your energy was too low today. Movie day just wasn’t the same without both of your daddies by your side. You felt bad, not wanting to seem ungrateful or cause Bucky to think you didn’t love him as much, so you made sure to nuzzle into him as closely as possible, for the sake of his comfort as well as his. You didn’t need to say anything. Bucky knew how badly you missed Steve, because he missed him too. He glanced back down at his phone as it vibrated, an incoming text from Steve.
“Finally got him. Just need to get everything squared away and we’re done. Call you from the hotel soon Xx”
Bucky felt his heart warm and a smile come to his face. You looked up at him questioningly. “Babydoll, I have an idea. Why don’t you get out your art supplies and make a welcome sign for when papa gets home?”
You nodded eagerly, excited to have an activity to distract you from the swirl of sadness in your tummy. You hopped up from the couch, running to your art drawer and dragging it all to the dining table.
“You help?” You asked.
“Not right now, baby, I gotta do some chores, since papa isn’t around to help me.” Bucky joked, ruffling your hair as he walked into the kitchen and began taking the cleaning supplies out from under the sink. He didn’t tell you, but he was excited for a distraction too, something to keep him from looking at his phone every second until Steve called.
Over at your table, you set out a large sheet of paper and got to work. You used all the colors of glitter glue you had to spell out ‘WELCOME HOME PAPA!!!’ and were now surrounding the words with little drawings of butterflies and bunnies, hearts and stars. You were deeply invested in your work, Bucky pausing his work on the dishes to watch you with eyes full of love. He felt a buzz in his pocket and his heart skipped.
“I miss you two. Ready to call?”
“Hey pumpkin, I just got a text from papa! He’s at the hotel and he misses you so bad, he wants to video chat with you.” He called out, waving you over to the couch where he took a seat.
Your head shot up and you dropped your crayons, abandoning your crafts as you ran to Bucky and his phone. You watched as your daddy selected Steve's name from his favorites list and his contact picture filled the screen, a picture of you on his back from a day at the park, both of your faces twisted with laughter at a joke you couldn’t even remember. You climbed eagerly into Bucky’s lap, trying to get as close to the phone as possible. You’d crawl through the screen and right into Steve’s arms if you could. The seconds between rings felt like eternity until suddenly the picture faded and your papa’s face came into full view, slightly disheveled from the mission but clean and cozy in his pajamas. His eyes lit up and a smile spread across his face as his two favorite people filled his phone screen.
“PAPA!!!” You shouted into the speaker.
“Woah babydoll!” Steve laughed, raising his eyebrows. “You miss me?”
“Um… YES!”
“Well guess what, baby.”
“What?”
“I miss you too!” You blushed, burying your head back into Bucky’s shoulder to hide it.
“Aww, babydoll, let me see that face again.”
Hearing his voice suddenly reminded you that you couldn’t be with him right now, not really, and how badly you wished you could be engulfed in Steve’s arms as well. You just wanted sprawl on his wide chest and feel his strong arms hold you in place, safe and warm. Your heart ached, wanting to climb out of your chest and run to him. Thinking about it started to make your face heat up, your eyes pricking with tears and your lower lip beginning to quiver. Bucky felt two little teary spots appear on his shirt.
“Doll, you alright?” He whispered down into your ear.
You sniffed and nodded, raising your head back up and turning back towards the camera. The sight of your teary face made Steve’s heart shatter.
“Honeypie…” Steve sighed.
“I just want you back papa.” You whined, the tears spilling down your hot cheeks against your will.
“I know, baby. Believe me, there’s nothing I want more right now than to be on that couch with you and daddy.” “Me too, Stevie.” Bucky chimed in.
Steve reached down and held up his necklace to the camera. Two dog tags on a chain, one with your information and the other with Bucky’s. All three of you had a matching set with the other’s tags that you kept on at all times.
“You got your tags baby?” He asked.
You reached into the neck of your shirt, pulling out the steel necklace.
“Of course!” You said, proudly.
“Good girl. Just remember, as long as you have those, I’m there with you keeping you safe, okay baby?”
“Okay daddy.” You kissed the dog tags before putting them back in your shirt. This made Steve grin.
“Now, I have a surprise for you baby. You too, Buck.”
“You do?!” You asked, Bucky raising his eyebrows behind you, excited to hear what Steve had to say but not wanting to take away from your moment.
“We’re shipping out of here in a few hours. If everything goes smoothly, I’ll be back home by the time you wake up.”
Your jaw dropped, and you glanced back and forth, turning your head from Bucky to Steve and back in absolute delight.
“So you be a good little girl for your daddy and get to sleep nice and early tonight. I’ll be home before you know it.” “How are we supposed to fall asleep with the excitement of seeing you?” Bucky laughed, and you nodded eagerly, sensing an opportunity.
“Yeah! Stay up all night for papa!” you cheered.
“Don’t encourage her, Buck” Steve tried to roll his eyes but couldn’t help but smile. How did he get so lucky to have not one but TWO people who loved him this much?
“Oh, but just think, if she stays up all night tonight, all she’ll wanna do tomorrow is cuddle.” Your daddy pointed out.
Steve took into account his aching muscles, the pounding in his head, and the burning behind his eyes from nearly a week of hardcore superhero duties. A day of naps with his two loves seemed like heaven.
“Alright, I see your point. But don’t say I didn’t warn you when she’s full of energy tomorrow night.” He smiled. “Well, I don’t want to say it, but I’ve gotta get going if I want to keep everything on track to get back as soon as I can, okay my sweethearts?”
“Noo papa! Stay on the phone all night!” You begged.
“I wish I could, babydoll, I really do. Be a good girl for daddy, okay?” “Okay…” You groaned, leaning your head back on Bucky’s chest where he bent down to kiss the top of your head.
“I can’t wait to see you again, honey.” Bucky said.
“Me too sweetie. See you two in the morning!”
“Bye Stevie!” “BYE PAPA!!!!” You frantically blew as many kisses as you could at the screen before it turned black. You turned back around to face bucky, your eyelashes still stuck together from your earlier tears.
“What do you think, sweetie, you wanna stay up tonight and help me get the house ready for papa?”
You nodded and jumped up, running back to your crafting supplies.
“I’ll make the decorations! You make the snacks!” You excitedly ordered him.
“Okay, boss!” Bucky said, saluting you as he walked into the kitchen to start getting out the supplies for Steve’s favorite cupcakes. It would still be hours before you could hug your papa again, but you were motivated with a new fire to make this the best homecoming ever.

And so Dani cries over HWU has ended (but will it ever really?). *sigh* I will always adore the app and the love of writing I developed because of Thomas Hunt. I know I don't need the app to keep Thomas alive, but it was nice knowing it was there if I ever wanted it. (Clearly I wrote this when I actually thought the app was leaving 🤷‍♀️)
I can't thank those of you who support Thomas and Alex's story enough. I love all the pairings I write for, but these two will always have a special place in my heart. I honestly believe writing for them saved my life, and for that I will always be grateful to them and to you for keeping up with their story and their adventures. I hope to keep writing them whether in the HWU universe or RCD or even another AU I've yet to explore.
Thank you again to everyone who has ever read, liked, reblogged, and/or commented on my work! Special shoutouts to @lilyoffandoms and @trappedinfandoms for being with me since basically day one! And @theicestarme @peonyblossom and @quixoticdreamer16 for joining me more recently, but always being the most lovely and supportive especially during this Farewell week. The kind words and lovely thoughts you five have left on the things I've posted have truly meant the world to me. I am forever grateful to you!
Complete masterlist below the cut. I'm still waiting on one art piece and a few fics I still hope to complete.

A Choice/Free: Bianca is using Hunt’s relationship with Alex (a student) to blackmail him into being a positive character reference at her probation hearing.
Love Among The Stars: Addison has a story to tell and a special gift for the happy couple. Is it true love? (A Hollywood U legend/story plays an important role in this RCD au wedding fic.) *The Quest this fic is based on is one of my favorites and I really love this story. I hope you do as well!
Love & Scotch: dx: Beards: Alex and Hunt are planning their wedding and waiting on one more RSVP, a certain doctor who has just returned from the Amazon.
